May 20 - Bike to Work Day
Here are some ideas to get you and your bike ready:
Bring your bike to Santiago Cycling for a free safety inspection.
We will give you an assessment on your bike’s current condition and make recommendations for service or repair work. You’ll enjoy your commute more on a bike that is running smooth and quiet.
Plan a safe route to your work or school, then take a practice run.
Start with Google Maps, they have a great option for bike routes. Then take a practice run to determine if your route needs modified and how long your trip will take.
Make sure your bicycle is still there after school or work.
Find out where you can store or lock up your bike before your first commute. If possible, take your bike inside with you. Otherwise, get a lock that is most suitable for your needs based on the value of your bike and the area where you will be leaving your bike. Our sales associates at Santiago Cycling can explain the benefits of each type of lock.
Add a rear rack or a basket to your bike.
Carrying your books and a change of clothes in a backpack can leave you hot and sweaty. Shift that load to your bike for a more pleasant ride. Come to Santiago Cycling for a great selection and let us get that gear installed before your next commute.
Celebrate women on Mothers Day by organizing a CycloFemme ride.
Make it a formal event with a large group or a casual picnic ride with your mother. Learn how to plan, register and promote your event at CycloFemme.com.
Join a bicycle advocacy group.
Either local or national, to help promote the clean and healthy lifestyle cycling creates. Consider the organizations we support at the People for Bikes League of American Bicyclists International Mountain Biking Association and the Orange County Bicycle Coalition. The more we get involved, the better chance we will have for creating more safe places to ride.
Please show your love for cycling with the rest of us by picking an event and getting involved in the celebration!
